Borat

We went last night and walked out after the first third. I hope these people successful with their law suit. It was a cruel movie.

Thanks for posting that Bill. I will ensure that a few hundred or even several thousand more people see that. Who knows I might even picket a showing or two here in Montreal with a sign that says BORAT IS AN ASSHAT or something. . . ;-) Maybe U*Us should take up a collection for the villagers. Might win a few more converts to Unitarianism in Romania.

Well I forwarded the article with my take on it to a couple of hundred people and some of them will forward it to others. Hopefully a few thousand people will be reached as a result of my SPAM wonderful SPAM. . . I'm seriously thinking of doing that picketing thing just for the sheer fun of it.

Radley Balko, a blogger I really respect, has a totally different perspective here.

I'm kind of divided on the issue. I support the villagers in their lawsuit, the frat boys I have no sympathy for.

I admit to laughing at scenes. But when I thought about it, and thought about laughing at other peoples expense, I just didn't feel right about.

With Andy Kaufman, I felt like I was laughing at someone who had a serious problem.

Well I have to admit that I always got a good chuckle out of Laurel and Hardy and other slapstick humour. It is not so much the low-brow humour that gets to me but the humiliating exploitation of presumably quite decent folk as reported in the Daily Mail article. Like CC I think that some of the other "victims" of Borat may well have got what they deserved but this does not seem to be the case in terms of the Romanian villagers.

And it looks like Radley agrees with you.

Radley's post script is right on... We didn't make it to the frat boy part...
