2012: The year when extremism self-destructs? - Guest Voices - The Washington Post

Susan Brooks Thistlethwaite on the self-destruction of the “Christian Right”: 2012: The year when extremism self-destructs? - Guest Voices - The Washington Post

The Christian Right’s been with us for decades now.  As long as Abortion is an issue, it will remain with us.  I don’t see that disappearing soon.

Thistlethwait’s got the Tea Party wrong too.  Illinois Social Conservatives i.e. Christian Rightest, polled the many Illinois Tea Party organizations about social issues, and with only one or two exceptions they all replied they took no stands on contentious social issues, because they were, well, contentious.

The Tea Parties focused solely on Budget and Spending issues.  They were focused only on those and anyone was free to join them if they agreed on that, and persons thoughts on marriage, abortion, etc were not issues in the Illinois Tea Party.

As long as we rack up record deficits and job killers like ObamaCare, the Tea Party will be with us too.
